few tricks.    

Here are are a few tips for a cheaper remodel:

• Use a counter-height table in place of that island.
• Think about using a wheeled island, you can get one for as low as $100.
• Try a peel and stick floor tile.
• Use wallpaper as backsplash 
• Take down your cabinets
• Update the laminate.  (You can get everything from a wood look to stone, marble or granite appearance.)
  
• Think about a painting kit for your countertops and cabinets
  
• Butcher block is cheaper than granite. 
• Do DIY projects
• Reface cabinets
